InPrivate: Anonymous Internet Browsing in IE8 Beta 2

Fear of your traces on web browser known by someone else ?. The next version Internet browser from Microsoft, Internet Explorer Version 8 (IE8) will includes new feature for privacy purpose. IE8 will enables you to surf the internet without leaving trace on your computer. The feature in this new Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 called "Inprivate Browsing". Users privacy is always a big concern .

"Have you ever wanted to take your web browsing “off the record”? Perhaps you’re using someone else’s computer and you don’t want them to know which sites you visited. Maybe you need to buy a gift for a loved one without ruining the surprise. Maybe you’re at an Internet kiosk and don’t want the next person using it to know at which website you bank" , stated in IEblog.

InPrivate feature lets users control whether IE should keep your browsing history, cookies and other data , also it allows you to block a content of the page you visit as well as capability to blocking or allow lists of websites base on subscriptions.

So if you are using shared PC or in public PC, a borrowed laptop from a friend this feature is for you to not storing any browsing data such as history, temporary internet files, cookies and any other data intact on those computers.

This feature reminds me to the Stealther plug-in for Firefox which does the same thing and Google Chrome with Incognito mode browsing. And I strongly suggest to folks at Mozilla to made this feature by standard rather than rely on a plugin.

Microsoft 'Stealth Update' causes problem on XP Repair, solution found !

It is been discovered that Microsoft has been sneaking behind by sending out "stealth" software updates that install themselves on users' computers without informing them or even prompting them if they wanted the updates. It just installing themselves even users had automatic updates disabled.

So what the big deal of this ?, while many people still don't want to talk deeply about the ethics of installing software on anyone's PC, even if Microsoft says it has good reasons for it, the most concern on this stealth updates is, that there are circumstances where it's stymie XP repair process to completely restore the Windows XP using the repair fucntion. It is reported that the stealth update that Microsoft recently delivered to users machine, blocks 80 patches and fixes from installing after Windows XP is restored through 'Repair" feature on XP.

Here is what Microsoft says what caused the problem :

Here’s what we found: when an XP repair CD is used, it replaces all system files (including Windows Update) on your machine with older versions of those files and restores the registry. However, the latest version of Windows Update includes wups2.dll that was not originally present in Windows XP. Therefore, after the repair install of the OS, wups2.dll remains on the system but its registry entries are missing. This mismatch causes updates to fail installation.

If you experience this issue, you can contact customer service using the contact info at http://support.microsoft.com/security. Additionally, a KB article describing the steps to resolve this issue will be available soon. I will update this blog with a link to the KB article when it is available. In the meantime, here are the steps included in the KB:

Microsoft's patent for contextual advertising abuse privacy ?

Never enough is for Microsoft, to leverage their dominance , Microsoft has filed patents of the mother of all adware systems, an adverstising framework that uses "context data" from your hard drive. Yes, it dig more deeper than the Google Adware does, it dig all the way inside the hardrive.

"Applications, tools, or utilities may use an application program interface to report context data tags such as key words or other information that may be used to target advertisements"

"The adware framework would leave almost no data untouched in its quest to sell you stuff. It would inspect “user document files, user e-mail files, user music files, downloaded podcasts, computer settings, computer status messages (e.g., a low memory status or low printer ink),”

How could we know that it will not touch any discreet data we stored ?. The patent makes no mention of any method by which an actual user might exert control, nor does it mention very real privacy or security concerns.

Speaking of contextual advertising, it's just too contextual.

xB Browser: a free Firefox and Tor-based secure anonymous portable web browser

Fear of your identities being revealed by eavesdropper, data thieves, your naughty network admin, and your hostile competitor or government will spy on you while surfing the Internet or to bypass website censorship and firewalls?. The xB Browser from XeroBank is for you, xB Browser is an anonymous portable browser, it's designed to run off a USB stick and keeps surfers' identities private and scrubs tracks from host computers and browsers.

xB Browser, formerly named TorPark is a combination of Portable Firefox browser and Tor the onion router. No need to explain what is Firefox, you knew it well. What is Tor ?, Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables software developers to create new communication tools with built-in privacy features. Tor provides the foundation for a range of applications that allow organizations and individuals to share information over public networks without compromising their privacy.

Screenshot and more explanation inside.

Tor aims to defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal anonymity and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security. People or organization who are paranoid of FBI's carnivore and magic lantern or just want to keep web surfing activities private from eavesdropper or key-logger, Tor will help you. Activist groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) are supporting Tor's development as a mechanism for maintaining civil liberties online. You might have read Dan Brown's Digital Fortress, and curious about NSA's super computer named "TRANSLTR" or their activities on sniffing citizen telecommunication and fear of a conspiracy theory out there, Tor is providing you a way to defend against the possibility of privacy threats.

By combining the power of Firefox and Tor, you'd get the secure portable internet browser, you're just a click away from anonymous surfing. The browser clears all data that was created upon exit or on demand. For the security reason Tor does not allow you to run another version of Firefox concurrently. You can test whether xBBrowser anonymity is running by pointing the browser at a Web site like whatismyip.com or ipchicken.com; the IP address reported by the site should be different than it is in a native browser

Since the Tor network relies on volunteers to donate bandwidth, your web traffic bounces and encrypted through so many servers spread so far apart, therefor the speed might be a bit slow, but it is worth for the security you gained, and the more people who run servers, the faster the Tor network will be. Just by providing 20kb bandwidth each way you can run your own Tor server. For speed reason, you can turn the Tor routing features off by toggle the Tor preference at the right bottom corner of the xBBrowser whenever you don't need its security enabled, with Tor off, your browsing speed returns to normal.

XeroBank, is also offers paid services total network encryption for professionals.
