Blackberry Messenger for iPhone hype, personal experience

Have you downloaded the Blackberry Messenger for iPhone ?. Yes, I know , it has been pulled back from App Store after the issue of leak of unreleased version of the software on the Android system. Up to this article written, checking on App Store , BBM is currently not available .

At first I was already felt something went wrong. When the first time I installed it, few attempts to register was failed. At the time, I thought it was probably caused by excessive access to Blackberry Server trying to register one at a time. When I try to register, many times I got these screens:
After the fifth attempt, I finally able to register. But as many media said that after registering with your existing Blackberry ID, the system will bring your contacts to this new BBM; but that was not happening. I was then starting to invite some of my friends one by one. The funny things is, some are able to be added to my contact list, some are just failed. I found my invitation that was already accepted by my colleagues are stuck in their 'Pending Request', and they are not appears in my BBM contact. Some workarounds to add them to my contact is to let them scan my Barcode. In my case, it wont work if they invite me by PIN.

So now the some test. In spite I know that the service may be still unstable, since the first time using BBM for iPhone, I am experiencing delay between the notification and the chat screen. Notification saying the chat is arrive, but further check on chat screen, nothing in there, until few minutes.

The problems still in the air, well I hope they sort it out very soon. I think Blackberry just underestimated how big this would be until the problems occurred. Luckily the issues have not impacted the BBM service for Blackberry. For further information , please follow @BBM on Twitter for the latest updates and go to www.BBM.com to sign-up for updates about BBM for Android and iPhone.

For you who can not leave your Blackberry device because of many of your contacts are still holding Blackberry device, this might be a good news. For some reasons many of corporate and individual users are still holding Blackberry, and rely on Blackberry Messenger for communicating.

This made us can easily fully switching to iPhone or Android based smartphones . With this confident announcement during Blackberry Live event, our long waiting time will soon ends.

I personally expecting this moment as I currently hold a Blackberry Curve just to keep contact with my colleagues who kept bugging me for BBM pin.

A part from this good news, some opinions are floating in the air, questioning this unpredictable move from Blackberry . Whatever it is, lets expect next summer, when the BLackberry Messenger is starting launched for iOS and Android, everything has its answers.

And be ready to get bothered by those annoying broadcasted BBM :).

iPod Touch : phoneless iPhone

The new generation of iPod, called iPod Touch was a prove how Apple listened to its users, and surely brings excitement to iPod lovers. Apple is releasing new generation of iPod while keep maintain and make the iPod classic better. This new release of iPod just will put a side that Creative, iRiver and others competitors of portable music players. In addition to iPhone, iPod Touch is another must-to-have gadget.

Why I called iPod Touch is a phoneless iPhone ?. Well at a glance, you wont notice its different with iPhone. The size is just 8mm thick, a lightweight gadget, a bit slimmer than iPhone though. With multi-touch interface, just the same like iPhone, it has built-in Wi-fi, Safari web browser which features the same functionality you get on iPhone and built-in Google and Yahoo search plus YouTube app. Ipod Touch has the same photo-manipulation as the iPhone and its 3.5" screen display is just sharp with vibrant colours and equipped with accelerometer. Through iTunes Music Store you just a click away to shop and downloading your favourite tracks wirelessly. Those features just almost the same as iPhone offered, it's just an iPhone minus the phone functionality. Once it is called stripped down version of iPhone.

Despite its huge functionality as a music player, iPod Touch has its own downside. The lack of radio capability and the small memory capacity is a let-down. Compared with the latest iPod classic's 160GB capacity, the 8Gb and 16GB is just way too slim. iPod Touch also doesn't have Google maps. With the Wifi enabled, all sort of web-thingy would be able to be done with iPod Touch, not just shopping iTunes tracks, right ?.

This must-to-have gadget is expected to arrive later this month, 8GB and 16GB. 16GB will be at around $400.

UPDATE: Now iPod Touch Features Guide is available

Linux Laptops from Lenovo

In response to calls from its enterprise customers, following Dell and Acer move , Lenovo plans to ship linux laptops starting in the fourth quarter of 2007. Lenovo is to pre-load its ThinkPad series with Novell's SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10. For the office suite, it will be bundled with OpenOffice and web browser and email client software.

A spokesman of Lenovo said, the decision was based on increased enterprise customers demand for notebooks featuring open source software, especially in the education, government and enterprise sector. In last June, Lenovo was making a 'no linux' statement saying that the company would no longer support Linux on its ThinkPad line, that was making them in hot-water with Linux fans.

It seems Linux gets broader support from the major manufacturer these days, customers demand and customer satisfactory level are the keys.

More about Lenovo Thinkpad T series "Thinkpad experience under linux"
Linux-on-laptops has a line of report on Lenovo laptops that's successfully loaded with various Linux distros.
